How a Computer Works

How a computer works - Part 1 - What is a Monitor?

Ready to delve into the depth of the unknown, I mean how a computer works?

No worries. Computerized robots are not yet strolling down our streets and "Terminator" is still a fantasy movie, so we have some catch up time to master computers and prevent them from conquering our future.

I've compared computers to robots on purpose. Basic computers were created by us, humans to help us in our every day life and they naturally possessed some of the commonalities of leaving creatures.

As the saying goes, 'The eyes are the mirror of a soul', monitor is the mirror of a computer's soul.

A monitor displays everything that your desktop system has managed (or not) to present. Luckily for us, its not a year of 2100, remember, so we still take full control over computers, make them process, calculate and display results on our monitors. Without a monitor you just won't see the results of a computer's work and won't be able to track it's usage.

As a computer operator you mainly work with computer manipulators and a monitor. Computer manipulators or input devices like your well known keyboard and a mouse allow you to enter and transfer your information and commands to the computer system to process. Then it displays the result on the output device which is the screen of your monitor. Modern computers are so powerful that most of your commands are processed in milliseconds, so the work of the computer system itself remains out of your attention most of the time.

You know now what monitors functions are and that computers are not that much about input or output devices like more about computer system that does 95% of the job and where the real magic happens. Next time you we will start demystifying this magic and turn you into a true master of a computer science.

Peace.
